General Guan Yu part 2

i retouched on the photoshop/painter assignment and i gotta say it looks better than the first attempt. i changed the angle of the stance, focused more on the forshortening along with many other minor adjustments. for comparative and convenience of viewing purposes i re-posted the first picture.

 

might give it one last go, but probably wont get back to it for a very long time. also, i had pretty hard time saving it to view on the web, being that the original is in adobe 1998. The colors came out all bland and almost monotone, but i think i fixed it by saving it in photoshop as “save for web” (a-duh! i’m such an idiot.) and made sure that it was sRGB instead. :p

good thing its for school, where everything is for “learning purposes” and i don’t need to worry about copywrite issues.

Sargent watercolor study

i noticed that i never posted this up. so yeay! more stuff to post. It was a project for class where we have to copy a Master painter’s work. i chose John Singer Sargent’s water fountain piece. This was all done in digital, The original was done in watercolor

been trying to get back into the game. i’ve been out of it as you can tell from the infrequent blog postings. it’s not that i haven’t done anything at all. here! look!

There were done as fast as i can but trying to put as much detail as i can too. and to top it off, i deliberately tried to find soneone that was moving around a lot just to test out my consistency. for to come! i promise!

william low project

Saturday i went out for my friend Justin’s birthday. I didn’t get home til 3 am. i slept till 7am and had to go to work from 8-4pm. got home… procrastinated a bit and finally around midnight the snowball has picked up enough momentum and size to go down the hill by itself. I didn’t sleep thinking the assignment for Willam Low’s was due. turns out it wasn’t. we have another week on it. he said it wasn’t going to make much of a difference because with past experience most students who plead for an extra week to hand in an assignment don’t have any drastic improvement from what they already have. This is what i have

project is to find a picture and change the clothing, scenery and lighting on it. i’m not done with it though, theres still a couple of things i’d like to do with it.

Haven’t been feeling happy lately. Don’t know what it is, but i’ve been just enveloped with feelings of melancholy for the whole week since the last time i posted.

Didn’t get much drawing done….or at least ones i’d like to show anyway. but it was another fun day playing around with the Manual 50mm lens on the DSLR.

got inspired

i was looking at Craig Mullen’s site and i stumbled upon his PDF file on Sargent. Reading through Sargent’s document really got me inspired to give his lesson’s a good practice.

Following his advice made me realize a bit of a different thinking pattern from my usual render. I’m thinking more precise before i lay my stroke down, I’m being more decisive and affirmative. i know it’s not going to stop from here. Let see how this goes after a couple more attempts and possibly with different mediums.

a day at the clinic

I went to the clinic today early in the morning thinking it would be quick. Little did i know that i wasn’t the first one there. There were about 9 other people in front of me. I was the youngest one there so it felt like i was in a retirement home. it was no fun.
