My Hackintosh

On my last entry, I mentioned that I was building a new super computer. Well, It’s DONE!!

Meet my new Hackintosh!!! What’s a Hackintosh you say? it’s basically a computer that runs on the Mac Operating System but with the guts and parts of a PC computer.

“Why not just go buy the real thing at an Apple store” you might say. Well for one thing, it’s much cheaper to build one than it is to buy a Mac Pro. I’m not talking about $100-$200. I’m talking about almost half the price!

A Base

Model Mac Prowith the specs of:

• One 2.8GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon “Nehalem” processor
• 3GB (three 1GB) memory
• 1TB hard drive
• 18x double-layer SuperDrive
• ATI Radeon HD 5770 with 1GB GDDR5

will run a price of $2,499.00

My Hackintosh was made with:

• Intel Quad-core i7 3.4GHz processor $319
• Gigabyte GA-Z68XP-UD3 Motherboard $129
• 8GB (two 4GB) memory                $42
• 120gb SSD hard drive                $130
• cd/dvd/dl-dvd burner                $20
• AMD Radeon HD 6870                  $179
• computer case                       $100
• power supply                        $115
• 2tb hard drive                      $179
• wifi card                           $50

Total price=                                    $1263

(please note, these prices vary depending at when was purchased)

Not only is it almost HALF the price of a Mac Pro but in almost every way, It’s an even more powerful computer than what Apple is offering. If you throw in a computer monitor which is about another $200 you STILL come out saving so much more than a Mac Pro.

so there you have it! My Hackintosh. I couldn’t have done it without the help of Tonymacx86 and the Hackintosh community : )

I’m kind of glad the Thanksgiving/Black friday thing is off the table. No more cooking, and no more shopping for computer parts that will be allocated towards my super computer (which will be showcased on a blog entry along with a blog-house warming of my little 7.5 ft X7.5 ft workspace on a future date)

I finally got some time to work on The Sketchbook Project.

the picture is taken on my crappy cell phone camera…why you say? because I want you to go see the real book when it’s done : ). Trust me, It looks a lot better than this image here. Until then, 3 pages down 26 more to go.

Water is Life & Happy New Year

I was pulling an all nighter since 12/30/10 working on the Water is Life competition. For 48 hours of no sleep it consisted of drawing at home, going to work, drawing during my lunch breaks, drawing AT work after my shift was over and sadly even drawing at my friend’s new years eve party.

So 9pm rolls around and I was finally content enough to send my work off to their website. I was looking on their website for the submission link. let’s see, submission link, submission link…wait, where’s the submission link? I started getting frantic. I just wanted to send it through and get it over with now it’s not letting me. So after carefully looking through the whole website this one part said:

Your poster(s) must be digitally uploaded by midnight (24:00) on 31 December 2010. Entries will then be closed.

When I read that the first time in the beginning of the month I said to myself “oh Dec 31…midnight…new years! got it, I can have it done by then” Now I’m reading that line over and over saying to myself “what the F do they mean?!?!” and it dawned on me. What they meant by it was tick tock tick tock 11:59pm 12/30 tick tock tick tock 12:00am 12/31 DING DING DING!!! time’s up you lose, Sucker!

I usually refrain from using profanity on my blog so that it’s suited for all viewers. young ones please cover your EARS,

FFFFUUUUUUCCCCCKKKKKK!!!!! I was late by 24 hours! why the hell do they have to phrase it that way?!?! Now I can understand and truly appreciate when people give assignments and they write: Due 11:59pm mm/dd. using 12:oo/2400 can really confuse a lot of people. Now I felt like I did all that work for nothing.

So for the rest of the night I unwined at my friend’s NYE party drinking 2010 away. go away 2010. I’m done with you!

Thank you ALL for occasionally coming back to this blog to check up on my posts. It really means a lot to me that you come check every so often. I really, Really, REALLY appreciate it. Realizing how i have hits everyday even though i don’t post for long durations of a time makes me feel happy that you care and at the same time angry at myself for not giving more. I won’t be closing this blog. There’s still such a charm to wordpress that tumblr can’t replace. From now on, i will be posting at least once a week. we can make this work.

updating from my last post, they wanted the picture without the text so they can put their own in. which was fine. Having my picture on their cover for their last and biggest issue of the semester was good enough for me : ).
